Childrens Books Online
For a child, there's no gift you can offer that will bring more joy than the gift of reading. A love of reading will last a lifetime, bringing him or her years of adventure, learning, and fun. Through books, children can explore faraway lands and learn to understand others.

Books En Espanol
Do you speak Spanish, muchachos and muchachas? If you don't, would you like to learn? At Bouncing Ball Books, we have books en Espaņol that are both fun and educational.

Books For Boys
For young children, gender doesn't much matter in reading material. Both boys and girls will love the gentle ritual of Goodnight Moon. Alphabet books, counting books, and many (if not most) picture books aimed at toddlers and preschoolers are genderless. Soon, however, boy and girl readers begin to diverge in their tastes. Boys prefer to read about boys, and girls about girls.

Books For Girls
Little girls have always loved stories about princesses, fairies, and beautiful maidens. That's why Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, and other classic fairy tales have never lost popularity over many centuries. Those classic tales, however, have all become defined by Disney, and marketed into very big business.

Chick Lit Books
If you aren't familiar with the term, "Chick Lit" refers to a genre of fiction written by and for women. The protagonists are likely to be in their 20s or 30s, working in an urban area, and looking for love. Though at first the term was used derisively, authors and readers embraced it and it came to represent stories that truly capture the humor, emotion, and hope of a modern woman's life.

Childrens Animal Stories
Animal stories are perhaps the largest component of children's literature and oral tradition. Every culture has animal lore, often with characters that serve similar purposes. The trickster character, for example, is Br'er Rabbit in the Uncle Remus stories. Rabbit is also a trickster in many Native American cultures, but in others the trickster is Fox or Raven. In African cultures, Anansi the spider carries out the trickster tradition.

Fiction Short Stories
For the last several decades, the short story has been the neglected stepchild of the publishing world. The genre began, in its modern sense, in the early 19th century, with collections by Poe, Hawthorne, and the brothers Grimm. In the latter half of that century, the growth of magazines brought authors such as Chekhov to a wider audience.

Childrens Book Publishers
Children's book publishers are always on the lookout for the next classic children's book. A good children's book has a very long life, as generations of parents read to their children the books they themselves loved. Goodnight Moon, by Margaret Wise Brown, has been soothing children to sleep since 1947. Munro Leaf wrote his classic story of Ferdinand, the bull who preferred smelling flowers to participating in bullfights, in 1936. Winnie the Pooh has been around since 1926.

Childrens Book Publishing Companies
Children's books are a literary market that will always be in demand. While other types of books may go in and out of favor, there is always a need for well written, original, and entertaining children's books. There's a wide range of options, too, from the simplest picture books through story books and chapter books, all the way to novels for preteens and teenagers.

Childrens Book Stores
Shopping online for children's books is a great way to find something new and different for your child. Almost all the books in any regular book store will be the products of huge publishing corporations. Small publishers such as Bouncing Ball Books offer their collections for sale on the Internet. Browsing children's books online will bring you to websites that have something out of the ordinary to offer.

Childrens Chapter Books
Making the transition from children's story books to chapter books is a crucial passage for young readers. Story books are meant to be read in a single sitting, while chapter books require the child to remember character and plot details over several sittings. While each chapter may be somewhat self-contained, almost like a short story in itself, the chapters add up to more than the sum of the parts.

Funny Short Stories
Short stories first grew out of the oral tradition, and include such forms as the anecdote, the fable, the folk tale, and the fairy tale. One could even argue that a long joke is as much a short story as one of Saki's tales with a twisted ending. In modern fiction, Raymond Carver, Grace Paley, Lorrie Moore, Annie Proulx and Sherman Alexie have helped bring the short story back into mainstream publishing after a marked absence.

Childrens Novels
Children's novels are an important bridge between story books and teen or adult novels. Novels (or "chapter books") for younger readers and those who are being read to will have very short chapters and plenty of illustrations. Each chapter will probably comprise a story in itself, but with an overall plot to keep the reader's interest high. Kids will love the idea of reading a "real" book, and will feel very grown-up following a story that takes several days to unfold.

Animal Stories
Animal stories are a perennial favorite in children's literature. Picture books for babies and toddlers frequently feature domestic animals such as kittens and puppies or farm animals such as cows and sheep and horses. As they get older and books take on real story lines, animals become more human. The Berenstain Bears, for instance, wear clothes, eat human food, and live in houses.

Poetry Books
Poetry, as a genre accessible to the common reader, is thankfully making a comeback after decades of neglect. The Beat poets of the 1950s and '60s, including Allen Ginsberg, were the last whose names were widely known until rap, poetry slams, and Def Poetry Jam brought at least an oral poetry back into the public consciousness. In 2006, Ted Kooser, the Poet Laureate of the United States, began publishing serious but accessible poetry in the nation's newspapers.

Childrens Story Book Publishers
Bouncing Ball Books is one of the new kids on the block in the world of children's story book publishers. Based in Miami, we are a small, independent publisher. Though we specialize in story books for children, we also publish novels, short stories, and non-fiction for adult readers.

Childrens Story Books
Reading aloud to your children from a very young age is one of the most important things you can do for them. Reading is the skill that underlies almost all knowledge; without it, chances for success are slim. If you can instill in your children the joy of reading, you're giving them a lifelong gift. For the rest of their lives, reading will give them pleasure, take them to faraway lands, let them understand other people and cultures, and tickle their funny bone.

Childrens Storybooks
What was your favorite storybook when you were a child? Chances are, you can answer right away. Reading storybooks with your child creates happy memories that will last a lifetime. At Bouncing Ball Books, we are committed to bringing you high-quality storybooks to share with your children and grandchildren.

Read Aloud Stories
Settling down with your child to read a story is one of the most satisfying moments in a parent's life. Even the squirmiest, most energetic toddler will allow a cuddle when he or she is fascinated by a story. Grandparents, too, enjoy the opportunity for closeness that reading aloud to their grandchildren can bring, and the memories that are created last a lifetime for everyone involved.

Kids Book Publishing
Publishing books for kids is both our business and our passion at Bouncing Ball Books. It is our commitment to bring you the very best in children's literature. Our books feature sturdy, high-quality stitched hard covers with heavy-duty bindings to last through repeated readings. We hope to see our books passed down from older kids to younger ones, and even between generations.

Kids Book Stores
Browsing kids' book stores online is an easy and convenient way to find books your children will love. You'll find several different types of book stores on the Web. Some will sell books from many different publishers, just like a brick-and-mortar book store. Some will help you find rare or out-of-print books. Other sites will be run by independent publishers, selling the books they publish.

Kids Chapter Books
Do your kids like to read story books in series, following the adventures of a single character or group of characters from one book to the next? Do they remember details from previous books when reading new ones? If so, they are probably ready to begin reading children's novels, or chapter books.

Kids Picture Books
Reading picture books together is fun for the child and fun for the parent. A consistent reading time, often just before bed, is a reassuring routine that helps ease children out of their active daytime world and into rest. Even more importantly, reading together creates a bond between parent and child. It's a time when your child gets your undivided attention, when you can giggle together about the antics on the page and discuss things without interruption.

Kids Poetry Books
There's a reason why Mother Goose rhymes, jump rope rhymes, patty-cake rhymes, counting rhymes, and so on have survived for centuries. Kids love poetry! Even a preverbal baby will respond to rhythm and rhyme, and older children enjoy being able to remember and join in. Rhyme was originally developed as a mnemonic device, to help bards remember the long stories that weren't written down. A strong rhythm supported the rhyme and carried the bard through the content.

Books About Animals
Animal lovers of all kinds will enjoy the books of Stedman H. Carr, D.V.M., published by Bouncing Ball Books. The author, a doctor of veterinary medicine for 47 years, brings his experience, wit, and wisdom to a coming of age novel and a collection of nonfiction stories. Your search for books by veterinarians has brought you to the heart warming novels by Dr. Carr.

Kids Story Books Online
Jacob Bug is just an ordinary fellow. He plays with his friends and his younger sister Betty. He likes to help people, but he doesn't think of himself as anybody special. In fact, the title of the first book about Jacob is A Regular Bug.

Multicultural Childrens Books
One of the primary functions of reading is to introduce us to other cultures and allow us to understand how much we have in common with people who are seemingly different from us. This is particularly important for children, who have not yet developed the prejudices and preconceptions that might keep them from perfect receptivity. Reading books to your children about those from other cultures and other parts of the world is an important step toward fostering open-mindedness and a sense of the fellowship of man.

Spanish Books For Kids
In America today, Spanish is the most frequently spoken language other than English. It is spoken by more than 22 million people all across the country. At Bouncing Ball Books, we feel it is important to address this fact by publishing children's books in Spanish. These are meant to be read both by those for whom Spanish is their first language, and by those who want to learn to speak and read Spanish.

Spanish Childrens Books
America's mainstream publishers tend to under-serve a large segment of our population--those who speak Spanish as their first language. At Bouncing Ball Books, we want to offer books that reach those who want to be able to read to their children in the language they use at home. We are planning to expand our catalog to include a selection of children's books in Spanish, including a book of poetry and translations of our delightful Sharp-Eye series.
