| Mr. A. Esakki –Ticket To The Moon, photographer |
| |
Born on Nov 7 1927, Esakki has been quietly documenting, in photographic black and white, the cultural ecology of Rural Tamilnadu, a province in South India. This is the same district where Dr. Kumar set his collection of short stories. The images are deeply evocative of the characteristic austerity and serenity that so intimately weaves the lives of these people with the landscape and each other. Mr. Esakki chemically developed and printed these images in his own modest home constrained by the simple means at his disposal in his rural and economically struggling South Indian village. Traveling by bicycle or mofussil buses, and on many occasions going by foot, he made the photographs shown in Ticket To The Moon (and many, many others) over the last 25 years. It is to Bouncing Ball Books regret that we could not obtain a current photo of Mr. Esakki, and so we post this handsome photograph of Mr. Esakki in his youthful young adulthood. |
