Books For Boys
For young children, gender doesn't much matter in reading material. Both boys and girls will love the gentle ritual of Goodnight Moon. Alphabet books, counting books, and many (if not most) picture books aimed at toddlers and preschoolers are genderless. Soon, however, boy and girl readers begin to diverge in their tastes. Boys prefer to read about boys, and girls about girls. The most important thing is to offer your child a wide range of books and note carefully what is most appealing to them. Girls can have rollicking adventures, and boys can feel the tug of emotions. Whatever you are trying to instill in or teach your child, you can only be successful if the child enjoys what he or she is reading. Capitano Ricco by Rebecca Bell is a picture book that boys will enjoy. While daydreaming at school, Richard imagines a life as a pirate. He thinks of the adventures he will have, the wonderful sights he will see, and the treasure he will find. His friend Jennifer joins him in his daydream, where she will be Capitana Jenna. Richard and Jennifer share a friendship that continues into adulthood. This is the best kind of boy's book. It gives all the adventure and spirit of a pirate's life, yet shares it with an equally spirited girl. Best of all, it develops a sense of identity in which the greatest treasure of all is yourself. We are proud to offer Capitano Ricco here at Bouncing Ball Books. Please browse the rest of our site for more engaging children's titles.
