Bouncing Ball Books is proud to become the home of a new children’s book series, The Adventures of Sharp-Eye for young readers. Florida’s own Rebecca Bell is the gifted illustrator and author of this fun action-adventure series. Bell’s traditional style of handwriting and drawing all the illustrations and words with colored pencils makes the Sharp-Eye books interesting as well as entertaining.
Released in hard cover, these books grab the interest of children by captivating them with the characters that are finely developed in words and pictures. Everyone finds a character to relate to. Rebecca Bell begins the adventure in the Weeki Wachee Swamp in A Regular Bug, Book 1. Sharp-Eye, a boy Lady Bird Bug who wears a baseball cap, is able to stop a war between the Palmetto Park Ant Colony and Bugville by using his natural ability to observe and listen to the drama as it unfolds.
In Message From Miami, Book 2, Sharp-Eye responds to a call for help by visiting Miami only to find himself in the middle of a Miami Mosquito Mafia plot to control the Insect World of South Florida. With the help of his friends from the swamp, new friends in Miami, Uncle Buck, and the Bee Brigade, the airborne infantry unit of the Insect United Federation, Sharp-Eye manages to act heroically and bravely when faced with danger. The Sharp-Eye Adventure Series is eight books of action packed fun that takes the group all over the world.
Inspired by the Baber the Elephant book series written by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931, Bell writes, illustrates, and publishes her books using her own handwriting instead of a typed font. Her pencil handwritten stories give her books a very warm and peraonal feeling. The action and interaction between the characters in the series brings back memories of the family and friends as in the Charlie Brown characters by Charles Schultz.. Sharp-eye is a regular bug after all and possesses no super powers. He makes mistakes, stumbles and falls, and sometines does not behave heroically. But Sharp-Eye is honest and true to his friends, family, and community and his adventures attest to the success of his character.
