MIAMI – (January 15, 2008)

Bouncing Ball Books releases Cherie Zendarski’s latest children’s book, What Bird? Written and fully color illustrated in watercolors and ink by Zendarski in her unique updated Suessian style, this book is enjoyed by family members of all ages.

In What Bird? the family cat accidentally-on-purpose eats the family canary! After the cat denies all involvement, a quick drive to the local veterinarian provides a happy ending. “I know you did not mean it, so do not sit and pout. Let us hurry to the doctor, she might just get him out!” In What Bird?, mistakes are acknowledged and resolved revealing Zendarski’s skill in expressing human dilemmas through verse and art.

Zendarski’s volunteer work in the California public schools as a sign language interpreter for the elementary and junior high school deaf education program speaks to her natural ability and desire to love and enrich children’s lives through personal experience. She emphasizes the moral of the story on the last page, “So next time that I ask you, ‘What happened . . . what have you heard?’ Do not sit there looking guilty and answer me . . . ‘What Bird?’”

Bouncing Ball Books is delighted to have Cherie Zendarski join our small independent publishing company with her new release title, What Bird? Her first book, “My Breath Ballet,” was also written and illustrated by Cherie in watercolor. Her rhyming writing style and attractive illustrations are brought to a creative peak in What Bird? and establishes Zendarski as a wacky yet serious children’s story teller and illustrator in the steps of Suess.
