Chick Lit Books
If you aren't familiar with the term, "Chick Lit" refers to a genre of fiction written by and for women. The protagonists are likely to be in their 20s or 30s, working in an urban area, and looking for love. Though at first the term was used derisively, authors and readers embraced it and it came to represent stories that truly capture the humor, emotion, and hope of a modern woman's life. The genre surfaced in the mid-1990s with the nearly simultaneous popularity of Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones's Diary in the United Kingdom and Candace Bushnell's Sex and the City in the U.S. Both novels originated as newspaper columns, which may well have influenced the light, personal tone that's a hallmark of the genre. The combination of that hip, urban style with a sense of humor is what separates Chick Lit from mainstream women's fiction on one side and romance novels on the other. The majority of Chick Lit works are novels, but there are also some excellent collections of short stories that fall into the genre. Bouncing Ball Books has published the short story collection Stories from South Beach by Sunday Lee. Lee, a young, attractive blonde living in Miami Beach, focuses on high life and high style with a humorous voice. As with Bridget, Carrie, and other Chick Lit icons, her character, Anna P., combines social and romantic strivings with the realities of the working world. You can find Stories from South Beach here at Bouncing Ball Books. Find Sunday Lee's email on the Bouncing Ball Books Contact Us page. Chick Lit is only one of the genres we publish.
