Childrens Novels
Children's novels are an important bridge between story books and teen or adult novels. Novels (or "chapter books") for younger readers and those who are being read to will have very short chapters and plenty of illustrations. Each chapter will probably comprise a story in itself, but with an overall plot to keep the reader's interest high. Kids will love the idea of reading a "real" book, and will feel very grown-up following a story that takes several days to unfold. When children are first beginning to read for themselves, chapter books help keep them motivated. Choose a chapter book they'll love, then read a chapter to them at bedtime. Chances are good you'll soon see them picking up the book themselves, unable to wait until evening to find out what happens next. Modeling reading is also important. Your children shouldn't think that the joys of reading are for kids alone. Let them see you often reading for pleasure. Talk about what you are reading and how much you enjoy it. And wouldn't it be nice to spend a rainy afternoon with you and your children all reading together? Once your child is reading on his or her own, be sure they have a great spot for it. Beanbag chairs appeal to kids, for instance, or you might encourage them to snuggle up in a corner of the sofa. Be sure there is adequate light. At Bouncing Ball Books, our goal is to create lifetime readers! From children's novels to short story collections for grown-ups, every member of the family can find something wonderful to read at Bouncing Ball Books.
