A library is a magical place for children. Stacks and stacks of books with brightly colored covers smile at them. A good local library will have a children’s section featuring childsize tables and chairs and perhaps even a colorful carpet where little ones can sit to look at books and listen while parents or a librarian reads.

On your child’s first trip to the library, focus on age-appropriate reading material and stimulation. You might wish to plan the trip around a story hour. Then stay to allow your child to become familiar with the library and what it has to offer.

A librarian can help you find picture books and read-to-me stories that will interest your child. Let your child look at the books and choose which ones he or she wants to look at or have you read.

Remember, children do judge books by their covers. Allow your child to choose books without being told “no.” As long as you guide them to the age-appropriate section, children will find what interests them. If a book’s interesting cover is misleading, they will soon learn how to avoid this disappointment on their own.

Reading is an important aspect of raising children. This is one of the reasons why parents need to have the right books on hand so that both parent and child will enjoy the books when it comes time to read aloud, together or to one another. It is best to choose books that are age and subject appropriate for the child and are also about things that the child enjoys. This makes the book all the more engaging to the child and the parents will take pride in being able to bring joy to their child. The books and kids and parents enjoy are those that discuss easy to understand concepts, have great illustrations, provide an easy to follow storyline and have an entertaining quality. When you have the right books available to you and your child; you will find that reading is something that is done more often than not which is an ideal way to get your child on the right road to being an avid reader.

People give all kinds of things at Christmas from socks to food to Home Security Systems but what about classic children’s books? If you’ve ever considered giving a first edition as a gift take a look at what the most popular books in the genre are as of 2012:
The Velveteen Rabbit: This one was made most popular by a quirky Friends episode but it’s a children’s classic in its own right. If you’re looking for something innocuous and gender non-specific, this is a great bet.
Goodnight Moon: Everyone was read this book at some point in their childhood which is what makes it a great gift. If you’re looking for a sentimental favorite for a new mom, this is a wonderful choice as are others in the same category.
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret: This Judy Blume classic is one of the favorites of modern women everywhere and that’s what makes it a hot commodity. If you’re looking for a great gift for your best friend this has got to be at the top of your list.

Every parent wants to encourage the love of reading in their children. Books are everywhere and there are many choices for parents and kids alike. Enjoyment in reading these books can be easier than ever.

You only have to visit a bookstore to see that books are as popular as ever. Take your children with you and watch their eyes light up at the many different choices. One of the ways books have become more appealing to children is that they have many books available for just about any interest and any age level.

Children love to learn more about things they love and find interesting. Their vast diversity makes it easy to find something that gets your child motivated and interested. For the younger children, books can be found that are full of colors, in sizes that are perfect for little hands and even some that are interactive.

It is never too early to instill a love of reading in your children. Begin reading to them at a very young age and watch how they respond. Have them actively participate in picking out new books and ask them about the things they like. Chances are, there is a book out there that will be just perfect.

Some kids just get bored when books are just plain old read to them. Their attention span isn’t all that great. So, if you are going to keep them entertained and asking you to read them another story, you have to look at some ideas to make children’s books more interactive. Here is where you can learn what to do.

Changing voices is one great way to make them interactive. Kids love when you use a different voice. Think about when you have to listen to people speak. The monotone voice is something that causes even an adult to lose interest.

Another thing you can do is get them acting out parts of the book. For instance, there are some books that are like the shows they watch. So, they have children jumping and flying like a bird. If for instance a girl in the book is running, have them run in place.

The last thing you can do to make it more interactive is making them use their imagination. Ask questions as you read to them. Ask them what they think so and so looked like or what they think might happen next. You would be amazed at how well they take interest then. These are things you can do when you are reading to children. Get them engaged.

Every parent should read to their child. When they are upset and restless, reading is a good way to calm them down. They can gain a lot of knowledge from books. Reading to your child will help them develop an imagination. It will also build their listening skills. If you start early, you can instill a love for reading in your child before they reach a year old.

Reading promotes communication skills. It is a great way to increase your child-s attention span. Books will teach your child important life lessons. For instance, they will learn about different types of relationships, personalities and how to handle a variety of situations. The books will also teach them how to make distinctions between what is real and what is not.

Reading is one of the easiest ways to create a bond between you and your child. Not only that, but studies have shown that pre-school children do better in school when they have been exposed to language through books. When reading to your child, they will learn about letters, shapes, numbers and colors. The knowledge they acquire will help them do better in school. Along with that, it helps them develop their interests.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

There’s always the story that tells about transformation from something less attractive to something beautiful. The most amazing transformation of all is the caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly.

Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss

A Dr Seuss classic .Want more? Click here/tag What child’s library wouldn’t be complete without a Dr Seuss book. Dr Seuss teaches children through zany tales and rhyming verses.

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

This book tells the story of a young boy and his life long friendship with a ‘tree.’ From birth, the tree has been giving and continuously giving to the boy. It’s a very touching tale of friendship.

Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson

What child’s imagination is not peaked when they hear the story of Alice as she falls down a rabbit hole into an amazing new and intriguingly different world?

Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi

The classic tale of a wooden boy toy dream of one day becoming human. Pinocchio is also the story often referred to when teaching our children not to lie.
