Tampa Writer’s Alliance – Bouncing Ball Books Short Story Collection Contest 2006

Small independent publisher, Bouncing Ball Books, co-operated with Tampa Writers Alliance this year in the first TWA – BBB Short Story Collection Contest and presented the Grand Prize at the annual Tampa Writers Alliance dinner January 18th 2007.  The Grand Prize in the competition, which began in August of 2006, was a publishing contract with Bouncing Ball Books.

After receiving 20 single short story submissions by authors of the Tampa Writers Alliance for the competition, the editing department of Bouncing Ball Books invited five authors to submit their entire manuscripts by December 11th 2006. These manuscripts consisted of an open genre of short stories written by a single author, a member of the Tampa Writer’s Alliance. The Grand Prize winner, Editor’s Choice winner, and Ink Awards were announced during the awards presentation part of the annual Tampa Writers Alliance dinner January 18th 2007.

Dr. Uthaya Kumar for A Ticket To The Moon
Dr. Kumar’s short story collection describes instances from his childhood in India that reflect the idea that culture and dignity are not based on affluence and wealth but found in the simplest and most remote areas of our world.

Editor’s Choice  - $200.00 prize money

Jim Chaplin for Meandering Thoughts of a Curious Mind
Chaplin’s zany and intelligent ride through his short story collection takes the reader through the soft side of terror, to murder mystery, to a prose/poetry style of storytelling, and back again.

Ink Award - $100.00 prize money

Philip Schneider for The Aaron Bowe Series
Schneider’s likable character, Aaron Bowe, is a high school history teacher whose first novel becomes a best seller. He quits his teaching job, buys a big sailboat -named her First Novel, and finds himself caught up in adventures that pull heroism out of his regular guy personality.

Honorable Mention – gift book Stories From South Beach by Sunday Lee

Sandra Kischuk for Lucky 13
Ms. Kischuk’s eclectic collection of sensitive and thoughtful short stories hit the heart. Each story is unrelated to the next except that within the lines is a deeper meaning to be revealed only to the individual reader.

Honorable Mention – gift book Maria, Me, and Animals by Stedman Carr, DVM

Barry Newberger for Family Jewels
Newberger’s short story collection spans 4 generations of Floridian family fun. Every family has its own highlights. Newberger has managed to narrate this delightful collection in an easy to read and enjoyable style.
